Notes - Robert lived all or most of his life in and about Suffolk region. He appears to have led a very active social life. Throughout his life and times, he frequently switched surnames using the alias CARR, derived from his mother's maiden name. Most men using an alias did so with good reason, usually related to the law or debts.
There were many Robert FAIRWEATHERS around at this time including a frequent offender by the name of Robert CRACKNELL who also used the name Robert FAIRWEATHER. A fellow FAIRWEATHER researcher found this information whilst browsing through the Ipswich Goal records.
This man would appear to be the cousin of Robert's father, by way of being the illegitimate son of Sarah FAIRWEATHER, the eldest sister of Robert's father. Sarah had given birth to Robert FAIRWEATHER aka CRACKNELL in 1792. She later married Robert CRACKNELL at Parham 17 June 1794 and had three more children. Ann born 1795, Sarah born 1796, and John born 1801. Robert FAIRWEATHER aka CRACKNELL was baptised at Letheringham Suffolk 15 April 1792.
Robert's FAIRWEATHERS first marriage, in which he used the name CARR, was to Elizabeth MARKHAM in Hacheston 28 February 1816. This marriage produced two boys, James Fairweather CARR born 1816 died 19 October 1840 and Robert CARR born 1919 died 4 April 1820. Elizabeth then left Robert a widow by passing away 30 August 1821.
Robert then met a young woman Mary COUZINS in Kettleburgh, who then became pregnant to him. The baby was a boy and he was born in the House of Industry Melton Suffolk 13 June 1823. His mother named him Robert COUZINS. He would eventually move to Parham to live either with or near his father. Later, he would be transported to the Swan River Colony as a convicted felon. Robert COUSINS was to become our ancestor.
