Notes | John was born c1774 in Waldron, another small village about ten miles from Salehurst. He joined the Sussex Militia in Mayfield during the Napoleonic Wars and was stationed at Silverhill Barracks near Salehurst. Presumably it was here that he met Dinah. Mayfield was also another of the small towns scattered along the Kent border.
Dinah and John's first son, John was also baptised in the Salehurst parish, on 27 December 1801.
By 1805, Dinah and John had moved to a small village called Lullington, Sussex and it was here that the rest of their children were born.
After leaving the Militia, John worked as a labourer and took his family to live in Lewes, Sussex, where other members of his family were living. Dinah and John lived the remainder of their lives at Lewes, and are both buried at St. Johns sub Castro in Lewes.
