This 892 ton ship was built in Calcutta in 1853. It was employed as a convict transport for Western Australia and left Plymouth, England on August 26, 1858 bound for the Swan River Colony. She carried the twenty first of 37 shipments of male convicts destined for Western Australia. The voyage took 86 days and the Edwin Fox arrived in Fremantle on November 20, 1858 with 82 passengers and 280 convicts [Erickson]. Joseph Ferguson and Samuel Donnelly were the captain and surgeon respectively.
There were no deaths recorded on the convict shipping and description lists and 280 convict numbers were assigned for the voyage ranging from (5061 to 5340).
Of the 82 passengers mentioned above, 68 were pensioner guards and their families, the number being made up of 30 pensioner guards, 16 wives, 10 sons and 12 daughters. The other 14 passengers have not been accounted for but were possibly cabin passengers or regular soldiers.
