  • Notes
    • Thomas Jardine, who was born 1829 and described as a "native of Edinburgh".
He was convicted at Edinburgh in 1849 and transported to Western Australia aboard the "Sea Park" arriving 28 March 1854.
Full details may be found on the Perthdps site of convicts to W.A, and also in the two books - Bicentennial Dictionary of W.A. (Vol 11 D-J) and the Dictionary of W.A. Vol IX "Convicts in WA 1850-1887" by Rica Erickson & Gillian O'Mara.

The National Archive of Scotland also provides further details relating to Thomas Jardine under AD 14/49/137 - "Precognition against Thomas Jardine for the crime of theft, habit and repute, and previous conviction". He was then aged 19, unmarried, address at Chalmer's Close, High Street, Edinburgh.

My personal interest with him is with his marriage to Hannah Milson Evans in Sept 1855 from which there were two children....Eliza Jane born 1858 died 1859 and Hannah Elizabeth born 1856 who was later "adopted" by Frederick Chester with whom Hannah Milson co-habited from about 1862 until they eventually married in 1880. As with so many Family History tales, the story is complicated .... and by real area of research is with the CHESTER family.

I am however trying to determine the date of death of Hannah Milson Evans/Jardine/Chester which has been stated as "before 1880" probably because of the marriage of Jardine to Mary Jane Spice. Hannah Milson however married Frederick Chester in Fremantle in 1880 - so was there some form of separation or divorce ? or just plain bigamy?
