Notes - I have not seen any reference to her having a middle name. The records are very sparse for this woman. I can't find her as an arriving passenger, but suspect she was Irish from the surname and suspect that she was a servant girl brought to Western Australia in the mid 1850's on one of the "bride ships" described by Rica Erickson in her book of that name. The Government had set up an Immigrant Depot at Toodyay and suspect she was sent there in advance of picking up a posting as a servant with a family in the district. She was about 26 having her first child. If she had been born in the colony she would be more likely be married and bearing children at age 19 or 20. Erickson reports that there were 2 males to every female in the colony at that time and servant girls were in short supply, requests were made to the Government to send more from England. Erickson also reports that there was a large number of defacto marriages between servant girls and ticket-of-leave men in that period. There is no marriage record of her marriage to James Anderson (whom I suspect is convict #507). Adding weight to the defacto marriage theory, upon James Anderson's sudden death in 1867, it seems that she got nothing from Anderson's bootmaking business in Toodyay. Charles Adams, apparently half-brother to James Anderson, appears to have stepped in with next-of-kin status and assumed the running of the business, placing ads in the Perth Gazette 17 May 1867 and 24 May 1867 advising that he is now running the business. As a defacto, Sarah would have had no claim on Anderson's assets.
