How do you get 700 men, arranged all over the side of a gigantic pyramid in Egypt, to simultaneously look at the camera and be still? Thanks to John Meyers OAM of the Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum who is currently visiting Perth, we know the answer. #697 in the front row of the 11th Battalion-Cheops photograph is Major Edmund Drake-Brockman. In his right hand, he is holding whistle. On a prearranged signal with the photographer, perhaps three blasts, the men know that the camera's shutter is about to open and record their group for posterity. Major Drake Brockman went on to become a judge in the High Court, where he was responsible for bringing in the 40 hour week. https://www.facebook.com/11thbatallionaifcheops
