In 1832 on the 17th June his wife Susannah died. His daughter Susannah (about 1815-18/09/1893) married William Lewington (about 1802-16/07/1869) who was also an early settler arriving on the Lotus on 23/10/1829. They married on 27/08/1832.

  • Notes
    • The death date for Robert Maydwell. The 19th November, 1838 could be 9.Sep.1861 and born 1794 in High Wycombe, Bucks though there is a Gerald Francis Edwards who has entered Robert on the First Families 2001 site and he says he was born in Leicestershire.
I know the Bic Dic of WA page 2125 says Robert died the date you have but it also goes on to say he was the parish clerk at Fremantle Church of England between 1832-1837 and conducted a number of burial services. Pretty good for a chap who died in 1832.
      (Jill Bickmore)

In April, 1861 a W.A. newspaper reported that "Robert Maydwell, free, who stated that he was an old colonist, was charged with being destitute in the public streets. The defendant stated that through old age and infirmity, he was totally unable to earn a livelihood." It was recommended to Robert that he apply to the Immigration Agent for assistance. Previously, Robert Maydwell had been a lay preacher who had often officiated at funerals. At one time he had been a Constable in Fremantle. He is thought to have died in 1861. There is a death notice for a 71 year old Madewell on BDM WA. That date would fit with Robert's age of thirty eight years when he arrived in W.A. Information on the Fremantle Welcome Wall says that he was born on August 4 1791. Someone has a family tree on Ancestry which says that he died in Guildford. Robert was not totally forgotten, SRO WA has an item which refers to a street called Maydwell Way in Calista, near Kwinana.
