  Maiden name of Robert Waters’ Mother was De-La-Pole. After a dispute with his Father he took his Mothers’ maiden name of Waters. De-la-Pole was correct Family name. There was three (3) children: Thomas Waters a Botanist. William Waters Robert Waters junior De-La-Pole Estates was passed back to the Crown because of no known descendants of old Robert Waters in England. He fell from a load of hay and broke his back and died. Wife took on an Inn "Barne Elmas", Surrey, England. Our grandfather was born at "Spring Gardens". 15 (fifteen) in Grandfathers family, sisters and brothers only thirteen (13) survived. The deceased were buried at "Spring Gardens" Toodyay. Robert Waters share farmed with Thomas Waters the botanist at "Barne Elmas". Robert Waters great grandfather of Lil Waters received 12 pound per annum to carry mail each week from York to Cooks’ homestead. This entails a long walk between the two towns and left little time for working his grant. He had completed the location duties on "Barn Elms" in September 1840 when the resident magistrate inspected and approved fencing to the value of 20 pound and tillage with 72 pound on his land. Between Leakes and Drummonds location was the Waters brothers selection of 1610 acres. These men were the sons of a widow who kept a beer shop at "Barn Elms" near London. They chose the name for their selection. Robert Waters came to Australia from England in 1833 and it was planned that he and Thomas would farm the Toodyay grant. Thomas already had 150 acres on the Swan called "Olive Farm". He came out in 1829 with seeds and tools to the value of 132 pound, which entitled him to 1,760 acres. Robert wrote to his aged Mother in England telling her of his plans to return to the old Country in March 1849. His mothers reply was, "you mention in your letter that you intend coming to England, not that I should have been glad and overjoyed to have seen you, but I am happy to think that you did not come back to England for there is nothing but starvation through taxation and monoply, so that I hope and trust you will never think of coming back, but make yourself happy in your situation." Old Robert Waters who was still a recognized authority on pruning and cultivation of the vine and who with two (2) sons was regularly employed in season in other peoples’ vineyards. Old Waters would seek out his old cronies and spend a week long spree at Everetts Inn. His wife wisely waiting for the worst of the bout before going to bring him home. His son Thomas Waters although a viticulturist was a tea totaler and preferred to dry his fruits for sale. He was a difficult man to live with and sometimes after a disagreement with his wife they would sit opposite each other, grimely silent for nights at a time sorting and preparing raisins for the market. His father used to declare he would be a better man drunk. He married Mary Ann Rumble and had four (4) sons and four (4) daughters. Susan Betts Waters in the best of health on the 15th August 1893 instant while walking down the street and was seized with an epileptic fit which proved to be fatal.
