Notes - Thomas Sr supposedly born in London in 1833 (but not proved). He was in the army and convicted of hitting a superior and sent to Australia in 1862. He married 28/12/64 in the Independent Chapel Guildford, a Congregatonal Church to Eliza Emma Harris (born 1843 in England and daughter of Joseph) Thomas and Eliz had seven children, Thomas Junor, Mary Anne eliza, Elizabeth Ellen, John, Matilda, Albert and Charlotte.
Thomas Sr died 3/3/1897 at Edward St., Mandurah Road, Fremantle (son John's home).
Our Kersey's are found as Kersey, Kearsey, Kirsey, Kirsy and Kersy, and possibly Cursey. David Kasey is the name on some of David Kersey's records of the War of 1812. The old Scottish spelling is 'Kerse.' Kersey is a course ribbed woolen cloth for hose and work clothes and a heavy wool or wool and cotton fabric used especially for uniforms and coats. The name comes from Kersey, England.
Genealogical Helper, Nov-Dec 1989, pg 12, article by Frances Sampey Dea
As a professional genealogist I thought I could find out anything about anybody (within reason) by using the IGI, parish records, post office directories, etc., but recently I was asked by the Society of Genealogists, London, to computerize a book on Monuments of Thornton, Yorkshire. These are also known to many as grave-stones, tombstones or cemetery records. The information contained on these stones told me more than just who was buried there. If you want to know if different spellings mean the same family, this is the first place to look. While there were several stones containing two spellings, one contained THREE spellings of a family name - KERSEY, KERSHEY and KERSHAW.
the book "To Mullewa & the Murchison" by Bert Keefe. On page 163 there is a picture of the Mullewa Gift Sports Commitee 1926-7 and in the front row is Billy Sampey.
There is two pictures on Page 165 of 1.Football Club Premiers 1921. In this picture there is W.Toomey, S.Criddle, Umpire J.Toomey, W.Sampey. T.Toomey, T.Sampey and others.
2.Picture shows Devils Creek Football Team Premiers 1922. Woolhouse, Tom Criddle and others.
William Sampey b.1889-1947 married Caroline Toomey d.1974. I think this is the W.sampey in the picture, and Caroline's relatives. It is Something to check out at your local library for any who are interested especially any who are big footy fans.
