    • Worked for Thomas BROWN until 1844; who had been working in Oxfordshire and arrived on the "Sterling" as well, with his wife and family. Brown purchased a property called Grassdale, near York Later, John purchased Yangedine, a property between York and Beverley. In 1856, John Taylor went back to England and returned to WA with several of his
siblings back to WA on the "Lady Amherst". Other siblings came separately, and many of them lived at Yangedine until they got themselves established. John Taylor was a well known farmer in the York and Beverley area, even breeding race horses. At one stage he leased Settlers House in York - it is now used for tourist accommodation. John died in 1890, leaving many children and a large estate.

YESTERDAY a telegram was received in Perth announcing the death, at a good old age, of Mr. John Taylor; senr., late of Yangedine, near Beverley. Mr. Taylor arrived in this colony between fifty and sixty years ago, and not long after bis arrival became engaged in agricultural and pastoral pursuits; He took up land between Beverley and York, which, under his management, became one of the best farms in the Eastern districts. He was married twice, first to a daughter of the late Mr. Draper, of Beverley, and sister to the late Mrs. G. Glyde, senr., and some years after her decease, to Miss Pyke, a daughter of Mr. J. J. Pyke, of York. He leaves issue by both marriages. His family is a large one, amongst them being Messrs. J. & J. Taylor, of the Williams district, Mr. N. Taylor of Beverley, Mrs. G. Glyde, jun., Mrs. F. Craig, and Mrs. W. Lowe. The deceased gentleman was very greatly respected throughout the colony, and his name was regarded not only as that of a thoroughly representative settler, but as that of one of the most hospitable and liberal of the residents in the Eastern districts. A year or two ago, owing to failing health, he felt himself compelled to relinquish active farming pursuits, and he sold his Yangedine estate to Mr. Everard Darlot, and took up his residence in York, with his son-in-law, Mr. Frank Craig. Not long ago, his health was reported to be worse, and all hopes of his recovery were abandoned. Yesterday, news was received of his death, which removes one more from the rapidly diminishing band of settlers, whose names are identified with the early history of the colony. The funeral will take place to-day, and is to be performed accord ing to the rites of the Masonic Craft (to which Mr. Taylor, in his lifetime belonged), the necessary permission having been obtained from the District Grand lodge.; National
