    • Charlotte and Charles Supardi (Suppurdy, Suppardy....choose your spelling). I have proof that Charles Supardi was one of the original illegal immigrants from Malta (7 sailors jumped ship...) (originally Calchedon Azzopardi) and that he was probably Mary's stepfather rather than father.

Apparently James Selkirk 'won' Mary Supardi in a bet from her stepfather Charles Supardi - she was very young when married but the actual age (12 to 15) is disputed.

Charles and Charlotte Supardi are mentioned in a few instances in Watchhouse reports - for drunk and disorderly kind of behaviour mostly. But Charles died from burns- horribly and lingeringly. But he refused any kind of alcohol as pain relief - he seems to have reformed. Charlotte died of senile exhaustion...which means her body just gave up the ghost.

  • Notes
    • Charlotte had 7 children, only one of whom survived - this may have been Mary but isn't named. She emigrated to Australia in about 1853, which also casts doubt on the assumption that Mary was born in Australia, although Mary's birthdate is unclear, depending on which certificate you look at. Charlotte's parents were David Young (Weaver) and Charlotte Sintow (or Rintoul) who married in Alloa on 2/4/1803.
Charlotte married ? Croft, widowed in 1850.
