Notes - George Dee and Ada E. Hurst - Born in Nailsworth and London, England respectively, moved to Denver, Colorado at the age of 29. George had a throat ailment (not T.B.) and the English doctor told him that the dry Colorado climate was needed for him to survive. George and Ada were able to move to Denver using the funds Ada received upon the death of her father who was a baker in London, England. They were married in Denver,CO. George came to Denver first and Ada followed him. The treatmentmust have been successful for George, as he was 83 at the time of his death. George and Ada went into the restaurant business in Denver for a short time, but it was not successful. It is sad to know that Ada Hurst's dowry silverware was used at the restaurant and was stolen from there, or perhaps sold to meet expenses. George later held jobs as a boiler man, janitor and night watchman. His son Robert said in 1981 that one of the reasons George was not successful occupationally in America is that his heavy English accent made it nearly impossible for him to communicate well. George and Ada were always very poor. In their old age they lived with their son, George Witherdon Dee in Los Angeles, California. However, they later moved back to Denver until death. This may have been prompted by the early death of their son George and, they had other children living in Denver at the time. They were supported by their children in their later years. Robert said in 1981 that he felt atthe time he treated George and Ada well and sufficiently. However, reflecting back from 1981 he said, maybe it wasn't good enough. All things considered, I would suspect that George and Ada did not want for much in their old age. Their son Robert was a very generous man as were their daughters. Robert was the one with "means", for the most part.
