    • Hoy was convicted in Norwich on 7.1.1852 and given 10 years for stealing rabbit traps. Shown as a widower with one child. Also known as Hay. He was 5’8” tall, light brown hair, dark grey eyes, round face, fresh complexion, middling stout, 2 burns on left arm and injured top joint left little finger.
      Committed 7/9/1849 by E. S. Long Esq. charged on the oaths of Robert Wilson and others, with having on the 27th August last at Catton broken and entered the dwelling-house of the said Robert Wilson, and stolen there from 2 shawls, 2 gowns, 4 pairs of stockings and 5 handkerchiefs, his property. The bills were ignored (acquitted). Norfolk Chronicle 20th October 1849. On 4/3/1851 Joseph received 6 months for larceny and in 1851 census age 23 he was in City Gaol, St. Giles Road Norwich, shown as married.
      Also in with him were his brother George (he had also served a month for larceny on 29/6/1849), and brother in law Benjamin Wells, also both married. His future brother in law Charles Bird, also a convict traveled out on the “William Hammond”. They married the sisters Corrigan in Western Australia.
      Charles aged 17 was sentenced at Warwick on 5th January 1852 for stealing silver forks and got 10 years, 4 months and 2 weeks. He was a shoemaker and got his ticket of leave on the day of arrival in Fremantle and his conditional pardon on 21st April 1860.
