Notes - When Mary and "Jack" free married, she was known as Benson. See further in reference to her marriage to Fredrick Benson in W.A.. Mary's two daughters were raised under the name free.
Upon perusal of the marriage certificate of Rosemary Benson and William Brown, her mother's maiden name is given as Mary Margaret Dawes. And on Rosemary's birth certificate born 29 February 1932, her mother is shown as Mary Margaret Benson formerly Stewart, her age is shown as 22 years. Born Glasgow, Scotland.
"more confusion arises" , on the birth certificate, believed to be that of Ann, her first born daughter, it shows the child named as "Annie" born 13 March 1930, no father's name is given and the mother gives her name as Mary Barnes Dawes, age 21, born in Blantyre, Scotland. We now have the added confusion that this woman, who was born as Dawes and later used the name Stewart { ?legally or not? } is found to have married Fredrick Benson in Western Australia in 1928 and Jack Free in Victoria in 1939
After Jack Free died in 1974, Mary continued to live at Foley Ave East Preston, until because of her health problems, she went to live with her daughter Dorothy and Bill Brown in reservoir. Later, she went into Strathmore p.h. in Preston, where she lived until her death in 1985.
