  • Notes
    • John possibly born in Wiltshire, England it is said that the parish register of St Mary's Church, Calne has the following listings: John ......son of George Perkins (reputed father) and Hannah Flea ....Feb 11th 1815.

There is no proof that this is the same John Fleay that came to Australia 16 years later.
George Perkins died on Aug 18th 1814, dying before he and Hannah could marry. There is nothing more known of Hannah.

John and Jane met in Australia, John worked for William and Hester Tanner and was brought out here with other workers of the Tanners with Williams sister Ellen Viveash and her husband (Charles) along with there labourers.

Jane Cook was also a passenger on the same ship (Drummore) the second eldest daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Cook. Jeremiah died within a few months of their arrival, thus Tanners then employed several of the Cook children, (Jane being one of them). Mary Cook was quite desperate and found herself to be to first woman to ever come before the court of WA. Her crime was to steal, 4 quarts of wine and 2 pounds of butter, value of 11 shillings. Her punishment was 6 lashes and one months imprisonment with hard labour. She was imprisoned in the Round House at Fremantle.

John and Jane had 10 children altogether
