  • Avon Valley Convicts

    Nearly 10,000 male convicts arrived in Western Australia between the years of 1850 and 1868.
    Hired from convict depots in York and Toodyay many settled and remained in the region.
    Despite immense hardship their contribution to the infrastructure, agriculture and social development of the region is reflected in the people and places of the Avon Valley.
    This database provides a brief overview of convicts of the Avon Valley and may assist researchers to seek further information from wider sources.

    Information was sourced from;
    • Convicts In Western Australia 1850 – 1887, Dictionary of Western Australians Volume IV by Rica Erickson and Gillian O’Mara.
    • WA Online Index of Births Deaths and Marriages.
