What's in a Name? WATTERS The surnames in most European countries were created in the years 1200AD to 1300AD. The formulation began earlier and continued into the eighteen hundreds. Patrick Watter in Aberdeen, to whom a payment was made in 1598, may be the Patrick Watter admitted burgess of the burgh, in 1604. Adam Watter was noted as living in Paxtoune in 1667. Alison Walters in Fishweicke was noted in 1676. Sergeant-Major Watters distinguished himself in the first Great War and was promoted to captain. A record of the personal name includes Schir Water Ra who was noted in 1415. A variant of this name is Waters.
